Vertrouwen of controle: wat is beter? (2)

In 2010 heb ik onderstaande citaat van William Ouchi in deze blog geplaatst:

“Under conditions of ambiguity, loose coupling, and uncertainty, measurement with precision is not possible (…..) An organization which evaluates people on their values, their motivation, can tolerate wide differences in styles of performance; that is exactly what is desirable under conditions of ambiguity, when means-ends relationships are only poorly understood; it encourages experimentation and variety.” (Ouchi, 1979)

Nu wil ik dat nader toelichten aan de hand van het verhaal van de topman van IBM over de waarden van dat bedrijf en van Richard Sennet over de National Health Service (NHS) in Groot Brittannië.
